A few thrift things...

The other day when I went grocery shopping I decided to stop at Goodwill. I haven't been there in a while and heck it was Senior Citizen Wed. another 10%off. Usually tho everything is picked over on that day and I rarely find things but not this week!

I found this cake dish. Ive always wanted a domed one and it was a great price. Its a nice heavy piece too not something flimsy. But I mainly wanted it to put on my counter with brownies and such that the man eats. Ive been storing them over the microwave and not only do they get forgotten but they get stale. So this is a pretty way to solve that issue.

I also saw this sweater. Its a chenille yarn in shades of blue and purple.......my favorite colors. It also has a hood. Thought it would come in handy with the weather we get.
I love purple glass and its hard to find. But I found this stunning bud vase. Its a nice glass with some weight to it and a pretty color. Not sure where Ill put it yet but I just had to have it.
And then I bought another sand castle, the one on the left. Ive always loved these but they are pretty expensive in the gift shops. But lately Ive been finding them in GW for a couple of dollars and that's reasonable. And so my collection is slowly growing. I just had to add one of my mermaids to this.
And then I found this mixed in with a bunch of other things. I almost passed it by. I had to untangle it just to see what it was. I Love grape things tho. This has very gnarled grapevines with some really purple sparkly grapes on it. I have grapes in my kitchen and while I still need to paint in here I thought this would look great when I do . Right now it clashes a bit with the hideous yellow on my walls. (its faded here from the camera flash, but trust me its bright)

So for $3 I bought it...............and I know these go for lots more. But it looks rather like a spider (which you all know I hate). And so I think Ill be looking for some greenery or flowers to wind in between to soften it up, otherwise I just love it.

It all started cuz I needed Juice...

It all started, cuz I needed juice. I drank all the grapefruit juice here and then I went thru the orange juice too. I drink it every day plus take Vit. C because there's so much of that crappy flu going on. Plus with all the stress of selling the house and moving, I didn't need getting sick too. I just refuse to do it.

And I drink grapefruit juice most of the time now. The ruby red kind. I love it. So the Grocery Outlet here had it on sale last time and I bought two cartons. So today I decided to go up there and get some. I hate stores like these tho. They are like Costco. Just when you get used to finding something there, they stop carrying it and they did....sigh.  But first things first.

You see those glass plates up there? I bought them at Goodwill awhile ago. I decided since Ill be in the same parking lot, Id stop by there today too. What are the odds that I found the rest of that set? Now there was only 11 big plates. But I found 10 smaller plates and 12 even smaller ones today. I bought them all. And then ....my nice glasses to drink from are slowly breaking one by one. Cant replace them. They are Italian crystal I bought right after my divorce. Yea I know fancy stuff for every day but hey it was just me and I deserve the best sometimes. So one day at a Goodwill in CA. I found similar glasses. Instead of square they are octagon but the same size. Sadly not crystal tho but still nice. They were 50 cents then. So I bought the two that were there. So today at this Goodwill I found more. So I grabbed the 6 that were there but good thing I looked at the prices. Two were 99cents the other four were $1.99, Huh? So when I went to check out I asked the guy about that and said if they aren't all 99cents I don't want them. He got a supervisor.........and she said she would give me those for 99cents then. Awesome. But get this......today was green tag day and the two original 99 cent ones were 50% off too. lol

I also found a pretty blue and white fair isle sweater.

Brand new Croft and Barrow with pretty silver metal frogs on it to clasp it closed. It looks like a sweater jacket in chenille yarn. I just loved it......so it was $6.99 and it came home too.

From there I went next door to the Bi-Mart. They have all their plants outside and I wanted to see if there was something new. I bought a spearmint plant and a chocolate mint plant and 3 pretty bare root roses. The roses were only $3.99 compared to much more at garden ctrs.

Then I went to the Grocery Outlet.....they didn't have any grape fruit juice. Damn, that meant I still had to go to the grocery store too ...sigh. So I did some damage at the outlet buying some of the things I like to stock up on. They had the really good butter for $1.99 lb. still so I bought 3 and then 3 more pkgs. of the good NY Italian sausage. I also found a bare root climbing lavender rose! So that had to come home with me too.

Finally I got to the grocery store and bought what I needed there. All this shopping and I didn't get what I really need....a shovel to plant the stuff with lol.

Out and about....

Today I finally got out. I wanted to get back to the Goodwill store. I saw those blue plates there last time I was there and fell in love with them. But I was hunting for other stuff and left them there. Today they were calling my name so I had to go back for them. There's only 11 but I think they would look nice as salad or dessert plates with my china. They are very delicate too. A lady in the store saw them in my cart and asked me if they were depression glass. I thought that too when I first saw them but I don't think they are. But they are made that nice. They were $1.99 a piece, which probably isn't much of a deal but I loved them. I also found a glass for my bathroom to match it and a NY cookbook. I seem to do better at this Goodwill than I do elsewhere.

I went to the Consignment shop to see if  I could place some furniture there and maybe even buy some. They are closed, gone. Bummer. I'm needing some bookcases and thought perhaps I could get a deal there. So I went off to wander. I went to an antique shop  that I had been at when we were here on vacation. Yuck. Really grungy old stuff and nothing that interested me. The prices were too high too.

Then I stopped at another right down the street from me. Its an antique mall but looks small. OMG I was wandering in there for ages. Its an antique shop in the front of the building. But there's a different one in the back and you can walk from one to the other. I saw a few things I liked but really didn't need so I didn't buy them. And frankly, I'm stunned at prices up here. I really thought this area would be cheap. Some of the things Ive bought down in CA. were actually cheaper there. I may have to go out to the boonies to garage sales and such, forget the shops.

But I was out, I was driving in the rain! Really didn't bother me much till it really started to come down hard. You would think people here tho would use umbrellas since it rains alot. I see them in the stores and they do look like some are gone so someone is buying them. But I have not seen one open umbrella since Ive been here. Nobody uses them, they just get wet lol.

So I wandered on home since it was coming down hard now. I was getting tired too, coffee time for sure. I got in and did a pile of dishes that I would have done earlier if I didnt get company early this morning. I wanted to get out early cuz it gets dark early and that didn't happen. So I figured I'd clean up when I got home. Good idea too cuz now all my pretty blue dishes are in there being washed and will be all clean to use. So here I sit typing, sucking down coffee and having orange/chocolate marble cake. I have to make dinner tho.........sigh. I don't want to cook.

Thrift Stuff

Yesterday I went and did some errands and while out I decided to hit my favorite thrift stores. The prices here in CA. are kinda high actually but in this one particular shop, they have some really, really nice stuff. One woman who works there told me they have some awesome donors. We get alot of pretty rich folks in this area that regularly redecorate and such so I think that's why they get this stuff. So yesterday I found that batter bowl up there made by Phaltzcraft. I thought I got a deal paying $4.99 cuz Ive priced batter bowls around. But I went to the Phaltzcraft site and saw some plain ones on clearance for $6.99. So ok I didn't pay shipping but not on sale they are $24.99.

Ive wanted one for awhile tho and this is a really nice big one. Don't know if you can see it but it has pale blue and pink stripes around the rim and at the base.

Then I went next door to Goodwill. Ive been wanting a nice pottery pitcher for flowers and things. This matches many of my pottery bowls nicely so I had to snag it. It was $3.99 but its dishwasher and oven safe. That's good considering how much junk is out there from China that you cant use that way.

After the last power outage here, when I found out 6 candles barely made a dent in the lack of light situation here at nite, I thought about oil lamps. Most are old fashioned and I figured once I got to Oregon, Id find a few to keep around for emergencies. But I spotted this one and bought it now. It was $2.99 and is hand blown glass. It still had the $14.00 Pottery Barn sticker on it. Its pretty enough for me to leave out all the time.
