Ive been thinking about the
holidays alot and how it was when I was a kid. We had one of those icky
silver Christmas trees but a small one maybe 4ft. We lived in half a
duplex and so the house was small. Mom would take the kneehole desk and
cover it with brick paper and top it with fake snow so it looked almost
like a fireplace, then put the tree on top of it. We used to have a few
of those cute lil Paper Putz houses that are glittered. I always loved
those and now they are a very expensive collectible. But the one thing
I really loved was the town that we would put together. These were
plastic buildings and had interlocking sides. They may have been used
for making toy train scenes, I really don't know. I remember having a
few buildings and a church and my favorite thing each Christmas was to
build them and arrange them. Ive looked over the yrs for them to try to
get some of my own and have never ever seen another one anywhere. I
don't even know what else they may be called. Maybe one day Ill be
lucky enough to find them.
So my question of the day
is...........what part of decorating for the holidays from when you
were a kid........is your favorite memory?
That we used a real tree with real candles! That's tradition in Switzerland. But living in the United States I've come to appreciate the ease of an artificial Christmas tree where the lights go on with a switch!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by..., and I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
Wish I could get my hands on one of those vintage silver trees, I too used to think they were icky...but suddenly I would love to have one, perhaps it would bring back wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is helping my grandma decorate her tree. She had bubble lights and I would wait in anticipation for them to heat up and start bubbling. I would love to get my hands on a set of those as well.
Thank you for your visit and sweet comment!!
Love and hugs,
Karyn
Thanks for stopping by my blog -- I had to check out yours!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory wasn't as a kid. The first year I was married, we got this small kitten whom we named "Larry." Larry had this thing for tipping over Christmas trees. Once you put them back up, they'd look like a drunken girl in a cheap party dress. We got to the point where we could secure them pretty good -- so she'd tear of branches and leave them in the bed. This went on for 18 years... now she's gone :-(
I know I've had too much to drink at a holiday party when hubby tells me I look like a Christmas tree...
I like the ribbon candy that you seem to only find during December.
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well!
