This is the painting I have in my dining room. I collect blue and white porcelain and thought it was perfect for my house. What I have found over time tho is, it reflects the colors I like having in my house. Ive made blue and white my neutral over the last 10yrs or so. Ive found tho that like black or white or beige, those colors actually make a great neutral.
I once saw a model home with these colors in the living room and dining room and thought OMG I have to have that. It was so cheerful and open and inviting. So when I finally got the chance to do it in my own home, that was it. Ive always loved blue, but purple is really my fav color. I wear alot of purple, own purple jewelry, I even collect things with grapes on them but only the purple ones. But I have found you really cant have alot of purple it gets overwhelming and depressing. But add some purple to blue and white and watch what happens.
There's something magical about blue and white together. You can add any color to it and it still looks good. As you can see in that painting adding many colors looks great too. Its crisp and clean. My family room has 3 shelves with lots of blue and white porcelain on it and yet my furniture and things in that room are more green and blue and rather dark. The wall decor seems to perk it up in spite of the darker tones.
My whole house is not blue and white, just the main rooms. I don't think I could live in a house that was done all the same throughout. I have a mermaid/sea theme in the guest bathroom, a grapes theme in the spare guest bedroom. That has a white cast iron bed in it with a grapes quilt on it but there is blue and white in there too. But you don't really notice it that much.
But for me at nite, our own bedroom, I have roses. If you saw my blog about my bed you know that its a romantic room. I found these awesome rose and taupe swags yrs ago and that just set the theme for my room and bathroom. Its a soft pink and taupe and girly in there but I don't care, after all I am a women. lol. If the bf doesn't like it he doesn't say. I don't think men really care much about that stuff anyways. But I once read that some men really like when its girly (not childish) because they feel like they are visiting. Guess its a fantasy thing lol.
My whole house is sorta girly because I love soft romantic things and Victorian type things. So to give the man some escape I gave him a room of his own to play in. There's a sneaky reason tho for me to do that. One, I feel everyone needs their own space. Two, I don't have his mess all over my house. Three, I can close the door to his mess when I cant stand it anymore! hehehe
What kind of colors do you like in your house? Why? How do they make you feel?
