This is Crystal.....

This is Crystal....shes a fine old girl. I won Crystal on EBay. I wanted a crystal chandelier for my new dining room here. Shes an oldie but a goodie. Shes been rewired but needs a good cleaning. So  I decided to finish her face lift and start to remove almost 70yrs of tarnish. Yes I know, on many old pieces the patina is a good thing to have. I suspect tho Old Crystal isn't anyone famous or worth big bucks so I'm gonna do what I want with the old girl. After all I'm almost as old as her and even I use makeup and such to hide the yrs. hehehe
I tried to clean her but its difficult. The old girl is wobbly on flat surfaces and her arms are not real tight. Its difficult to move her around too. So I called the man over and asked him if we could take her apart. After all they had to do that to rewire her so its been done before. But I never did it and shes big enough that it would be hard for me to do alone. So the man took her apart for me. Now I can clean up the glass parts too and make them shine.

The man noticed her wobbly arms and decided to tighten the old girl up. Now shes just fine. Good thing I decided to do this.

This is how bad the tarnish is. Old patina or not, I don't like it. She looks old when I know deep inside when I get done with her shes gonna look fine, fresh and sparkly and while not brand new......looking good for an old broad. :)

This is just one arm all polished up. Looks damn good! Its going to take me awhile tho cuz it took four coats of brass polish and fine steel wool to get it to look like this. But once shes done, I'm going to get nice lampshades of cream silk and I'm going to cover that with lace. This way when the light shines thru you can see the lace pattern and Old Crystal here will look hot and sexy. Since I may have trouble finding some old brass chain that isn't lacquered, Ive decided if I cant, I will get a cream silk chain cover to put over it, then nobody will be the wiser....and Crystal will be one hot, sexy old girl.

  2. Crystal's one lucky gal and I'm sure she'll show her gratitude to you for all your hard work. She really is gorgeous all lit up already, but now she'll be even more gorgeous in the daylight! Great find...some of us have to pretend with little suspended crystal balls hanging from rafters!
