When you move into a new home you have no idea what is growing there. I moved here in the dead of winter so other than pine, pretty much nothing else was blooming. So imagine my surprise when I walked around the side of the house the other day and saw these. So Ive decided to journal things I see growing as I find them. Spring has hit Oregon.
I have no idea what some of the things growing are tho. I think these might be a kind of Iris but the leaves look like the spider plant. So it will be interesting to see what happens here.
This is of course the crocus patch out front. I see other spikes coming up too and I think they may be daffodils. I love it!
Looks like Dusty Miller has been planted here. Was brown and weedy when I moved in. And that one little pink flower is a hyacinth. Not many flowers on it tho, maybe the deer or some critter got to the bulb, cuz it grew funny. Don't know what the ground cover it but it has tiny blue flowers just starting.
I have no idea what these are. They are planted here and there but so far no flowers. Looks like long dead spiked flower branches tho on there so I cant wait to see. Im going to have to get out there and start removing all the dead stuff. Been too busy moving to worry about outside yet.
Dont know for sure what this is but I suspect its hydrangea. And if it is, Im gonna be so happy. I just love those, they remind me of my gramma.
Looks like Sedum coming up. At first I thought it was yarrow cuz of the long spiked flower heads.
This is looking like geranium, the real old fashioned kind. Its so sweet, looks like it self seeded right there on the garage foundation. Im gonna leave it there.
And finally this. This is what first caught my eye. Its right at the foot of my front porch steps. This herb lover has chives! There are tags there for sage and parsley too but no sign of any plants. I dont think they made it thru the winter. Its ok. Im already planning an herb garden since Im very much into growing, using and herbal therapies. I have no idea what that other plant is tho behind it. Looks like a begonia of some sort altho a friend says its looks like brunneria. If its that tho, they get small blue forget me not like flowers. I love those. Cant wait to see what happens here.
Hello Sweet Friend!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you are getting all of these beautiful surprises! Spring is around the corner and I can hardly wait! Looking forward to seeing the progression of your lovely flowers and herbs!!
Have a fabulous week my friend!
Big Hugs,
Karyn
Isn't it fun to see what's in the yard of your new house? The 'spikey' variegated leaves coming up could be what we call Ribbon Grass. Of course, they could be a number of things - time will tell. And the sedum with the rusty brown tall blooms looks just like my Autumn Joy sedum. Have fun with your new yard - it will change constantly through the seasons. I know you will enjoy it a lot!
